Websites for freelancers

A freelancer website.

A freelancer doesn’t need an agency website. You need a page you can send to someone who’s thinking of hiring you.

This is for freelancers and sole traders who want their own site. It isn’t a job board, and it doesn’t find you clients.

The useful version is small. What you do, who you do it for, a handful of real examples you’re allowed to show, and a way to email or call you. That’s enough to replace “my work is somewhere on Instagram” as the link in your bio and on your invoice.

If you’re a consultant with a more formal offer, the consultant website page may fit better. If you’re starting a product company, see startup websites. A freelancer site is about you and the work you take on.

Built for this work

What a website for freelancers needs.

Services in one screen

The kinds of work you want more of, named plainly, and the kinds you’re not taking.

Your own examples

Projects you supply. I won’t pad the page with stock work or pretend an example design is a commission.

Hire me

A short form: what they need, when, and how to reply. Phone and email if you want them.

A proper address on the web

Your own domain, bought by you for around £5–£10 a year, so the link is yours.

Invoices and payments

If you take card payments, I’ll connect Stripe payment links from your account. The site doesn’t take a cut, because the Stripe account is yours.

Searches your customers type

What people type when they need a freelancer.

This page is for freelancers who want a website. The search it answers is “freelancer website”. It is not a listing, and it does not pretend to be a freelancer.

Your own customers search for something else:

  • “freelance plus your skill”
  • “your name”
  • “hire a freelancer”

A freelancer’s site is a place to send people: services, a few examples of your own work, and a way to get in touch. It does not need to look like an agency.

A useful site names your services and the places you cover, in real text, with a proper title on each page and a phone number that works on a mobile. Your free Google Business Profile (opens in a new tab) is the other half: the listing that can show your hours, phone number and area on Google and Maps. Use the same name, address and phone number as the website. I don’t write reviews, and none of this is a promise of a position in the results.

Tips

Getting the most from it.

  • Show the work you want to be hired for, not every job you’ve ever done.
  • Put the site address in your email signature and on invoices.
  • Don’t wait for a logo. Your name is enough to start the mock-up.

Payment plans

Rather spread the cost?

A full website is £500. If you’d rather not pay it all at once, pick one of these plans. Every plan adds up to exactly £500, with nothing extra on top.

Plan 1

£150 up front

then £50 a month for 7 months

Total: £500

Plan 2

£100 up front

then £100 a month for 4 months

Total: £500

Plan 3

3 payments

of £166.67, £166.67 and £166.66

Total: £500

  • Monthly payments are taken automatically by card, through Stripe — nothing to remember.
  • Once it’s paid off, you choose: a £10-a-month hosting and care plan, or a full handover of your site.
  • Your own domain is extra, at around £5–£10 a year.

Note: you buy your own domain (around £5–£10 a year) — it’s yours to keep. Want to take payments? You set up your own Stripe account and I’ll connect it. The longer notes are a cheap website for a small business and a pay monthly website.

FAQ

Common questions.

I only have two projects I can show. Is that enough?

Yes. Two real examples beat a grid of placeholders. We can add more later.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. The site is £500, or £150 then £50 a month for 7 months, £100 then £100 a month for 4 months, or three payments of £166.67, £166.67 and £166.66. Every plan totals £500.

Will you write the words?

I’ll shape them into the page and fix anything that isn’t clear. I need the facts from you: what you do, who for, and which projects we can show. I won’t invent clients.

Will this rank for “freelance plus your skill”, “your name”, “hire a freelancer”?

No. Those are searches your customers type when they want a freelancer, and I can’t promise a position on Google. This page is for freelancer website. On your site I will write your services and the places you cover in plain text, set a proper title on each page, and make it work on a phone. You should also set up your free Google Business Profile with the same name, address and phone number. That gives Google accurate information about the business. It is not a guarantee.

How much does it cost, and can I pay monthly?

A full website is £500, or you can spread the cost: £150 up front then £50 a month for 7 months, £100 up front then £100 a month for 4 months, or three payments of £166.67, £166.67 and £166.66. Every plan totals exactly £500, and monthly payments are taken automatically by card through Stripe. You buy your own domain separately, at around £5–£10 a year.
