Old sites

A website redesign.

A website redesign is worth it when the current site is getting in the way: hard to use on a phone, unclear, or so brittle that a simple change isn’t simple.

When a redesign is the right job

I look at the same problems repeatedly. The page has to be pinched and zoomed on a phone. The phone number isn’t tappable. The browser says the site isn’t secure. The Google title still says “Home”. The contact form doesn’t arrive, or there isn’t one. The business has changed and the site describes an older version of it.

If that’s the situation, a redesign here means a new site, built from scratch, not a new coat of paint on a page builder. The price for a small business is £500, with the payment plans if you want them. You’ll see a homepage mock-up before you commit.

Update my old website

“Update my old website” sometimes means a smaller job. A new phone number, a revised price list, a paragraph about a new service. If I built the site, that kind of edit can sit on the £10-a-month care plan after the site is paid for, or as a one-off if we’ve agreed it.

If someone else built it, in a page builder I don’t work in, I don’t patch it. Unpicking a theme, a pile of plugins and a layout that breaks when you edit it usually costs more time than building the replacement. I’ll say that at the start rather than bill you for a rescue that isn’t going to hold.

Send the address of the current site with the mock-up form. I’ll tell you whether a new site is what you need. If the old site is basically fine and you only wanted a second opinion, you don’t owe me anything.

What you can keep

Your domain, if you already own it. We point it at the new site when the new one is ready, so you aren’t left with a gap. Your photos, your logo if you have one, and any words that are still true. Your Google Business Profile — updated so the name, address and phone match the new site.

What you shouldn’t keep is a stack of pages that repeat each other, or a blog that hasn’t been touched in years. A shorter site that answers what you do and how to enquire is the usual result. There’s a longer note on what a small business website needs.

The £500 package

What the £500 includes.

A full small-business website, built from scratch. The list is the same wherever you read it.

  • Custom design, built from scratch

Designed and coded around your business, not a theme shared with other companies.

  • Fully mobile responsive

Laid out for a phone first, so people can read it and tap to call without zooming.

  • Secure HTTPS

The padlock browsers expect, with no “not secure” warning.

  • SEO titles & descriptions

Every page gets a proper title and description, so the page says what it is about.

  • Contact form and links

A form that reaches you, plus your phone number, email and any links you want shown.

  • Stripe payment links connected, if you want them

If you take payments, you set up your own Stripe account and I’ll connect the payment links.

  • Help going live

I help you point your domain at the new site and check it before you send people there.

Separate from the £500

  • Your domain, around £5–£10 a year. You buy it, so you own it.
  • Once the site is paid for: a £10-a-month hosting and care plan, or a full handover. Your choice.

The pay monthly plans all total £500. A plain-English note on what the cheap website includes is here if you want the longer version.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will you redesign my Wix or WordPress site in place?

No. I build a new site from scratch. If the old one only needs a tiny text change and I didn’t build it, you’re better asking the person who did.

Do I have to change my domain?

No. If the domain is in your name, we keep it and point it at the new site when you’re ready.

How much is a redesign?

For a small business, the new site is £500 — the same as a first website. Larger projects are quoted from around £1,200.
